I’m Pregnant! Now What?

Congratulations on your pregnancy and welcome to the Surrey Prenatal Clinic (SPNC).  We are a group of family doctors that provide prenatal care and delivery in Surrey, B.C.

Before Your appointment

If you have just been referred to SPNC it may take up to four weeks before an appointment is available. During this time please continue to see your referring doctor for all prenatal care.

When an appointment is available you will be contacted by our office to schedule your appointment. Please complete our New Patient Questionnaire prior to your first appointment. The first appointment may be done by phone or in person.

In Person Appointments

Please arrive 10 minutes before your appointment so you can check-in and record your current weight and blood pressure before you appointment with the doctor.   Expect to pay for at least an hour of parking time.  Please be patient if we are running behind as we are trying to provide the best care to each of you.

Routine prenatal visits occur every fours weeks until 28 weeks; every two weeks between 28-34 weeks; and weekly from 35 weeks until your baby is born.  We do our best to schedule you with the same doctor at each appointment, but this is not always possible.

During your prenatal visits we will assess your blood pressure, monitor your baby’s growth, listen to your baby’s heartbeat and as you approach due date, check your baby’s position.

Important Information

As our time is limited, we encourage you to go to prenatal classes with your support person. We also offer a monthly information session via Zoom where you can ask questions about pregnancy and delivery at the Surrey Memorial Hospital.

Please call the Family Birthing Unit (FBU) triage number (604-585-5572), if you have an urgent prenatal concern such as your baby not moving, vaginal bleeding, your water might be leaking or when you are in labour. When you go into labour with regular, strong contractions, or your water breaks please call the family birthing unit to discuss when you should come to the hospital. One of the doctors in our group is on-call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  Whichever doctor in the Surrey Prenatal Clinic is at the hospital on the day you go into labour will provide your delivery care.

If you have questions unrelated to your pregnancy please call your regular family doctor , the BC nursing line (#811) or the Fraser Health Virtual Clinic 1-800-314-0999.

Congratulations on your pregnancy, it is our privilege to care for you throughout your pregnancy, labour and delivery.  We wish you and your family a safe and healthy journey through this special time.
